GSU's STEAM Truck Visit
Posted on 04/15/2024

On Thursday, Lithia Springs High School hosted the Georgia State University STEAM Truck, offering an enriching opportunity for our students to delve into the world of drone technology. Organized as part of the esteemed Academy for Future Teachers (AFT) program, led by Dr. Erica Bass Flimmons of Georgia State University, the event aimed to inspire and prepare the next generation of educators and STEAM leaders.

From 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. daily over three weeks, enthusiastic high school participants will engage in hands-on activities and interactive sessions aimed at enhancing their teaching and communication skills. Through the application of STEAM (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) concepts, students will work collaboratively in small teams to tackle real-world challenges, devising innovative ways to communicate their findings effectively.

One of the highlights of the AFT program is its emphasis on practical experience. High school students will have the unique opportunity to teach elementary students the STEAM concepts they learn, receiving invaluable feedback to refine their teaching methods and skills. This immersive experience not only equips future educators and STEAM professionals with essential professional and academic skills but also helps them discern their career goals and aspirations.

Dr. Erica Bass Flimmons extends an invitation to prospective freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors for the fall 2024 term to join the AFT program, scheduled to take place from June 3 to June 20, 2024, at Georgia State University’s downtown campus. Whether students are considering a career in teaching or pursuing a path in STEM, AFT offers a dynamic platform to explore and cultivate their interests.
