Meet Destiny Francis! A talented artist and straight "A" 11th grader here at LSHS. Destiny is also the president of the National Art Honor Society. Destiny's artwork "In Honor of My Grandpas," was on display at LSHS last week during Freshman Expo. Destiny wanted to create a piece to honor the grandfathers. When asked how this vision came about, Destiny replied, " 'In Honor of My Grandpa's' is a heartfelt piece that holds a special place in my heart. It serves as a tribute to both of my grandfathers, who unfortunately passed away when I was younger. I wanted to create something that would keep their memories alive, so I made this piece as a gift for my parents, who are displayed next to pictures of their respective fathers. The background of the piece is adorned with specific flowers that are symbolic of my grandfather's roots. In the upper region, there are blue magnolia flowers, which are a nod to New Orleans, Louisiana, where my dad's father was born. The lower area is decorated with peach tree flowers, which represent Georgia, where my other grandfather was from. This piece was a laborious journey to complete, taking me roughly 4-5 months to finish, but the joy it brought to my parents seeing it for the first time made it all worthwhile." A true talent that we are proud of and wish her much success in her future endeavors.
