Authorization of Junior ROTC - The enactment of Public Law 88-647 and codification in Title 10, U.S.C., Sec. 2031, authorized the military service secretaries to commission Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps units at secondary schools that meet established criteria. Accordingly, the Secretary of the Navy has authorized the CMC to establish Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (MCJROTC) units throughout the Unites States.

Purpose of the JROTC - Instill a value of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment. The program produces successful students and productive adults, while fostering in each school a more constructive and disciplined learning environment. This program makes substantial contributions to many communities and ultimately to the nation's future. It is NOT a recruitment tool for military service, nor does involvement in the MCJROTC program imply any future commitment to the US Marine Corps or any other branch of service.

Mission - Develop informed and responsible citizens; cultivate leadership skills; strengthen character; promote an understanding of the basics for national security; help form habits of self-discipline; instill respect for, and an understanding of, the need for constituted authority in a democratic society.

Classes - Leadership Traits and Principles, Close Order Drill with and without drill rifles, Physical Training, Flag Etiquette, Marksmanship (pellet rifles), Uniform Regulations, Military History, Military Chain of Command, Land Navigation/Orienteering, Basic First Aid, and other general military subjects.

Uniforms - Cadets will be issued Marine Corps uniforms which they will wear to school at least one day a week as directed by the SMI/MI. Physical training gear (issued shorts/sweats) will be worn on physical training days.

After school activities - Color Guard, LSHS sporting events, volunteering in the community, Veteran's outreach, drill competition and various other activities.
