Mu Alpha Theta is a highly selective national mathematics honorary society based upon superior student performance in mathematics. The National Mathematics Honor Society chapter of Lithia Springs High School is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Mu Alpha Theta was formed in 1957 to engender keener interest in mathematics, to develop sound scholarship in the subject and promote enjoyment of mathematics among high school students. As a newly functioning chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, we will operate under the establish chapter constitution, elect officers, and participate in activities that foster mathematical abilities and interest.

The requirements for admission into this elite organization includes current enrollment in an advance mathematics course such as Algebra II or Accelerated Precalculus for juniors, and Precalculus, AP Statistics or AP Calculus AB/BC for seniors, with no grade less than a B for any high school mathematical course. In addition, students must also have a satisfactory disciplinary record and be confirmed by select members of the mathematics department.

Following the invitation into Mu Alpha Theta, all members are required to maintain at least the same level of performance in all criteria that led to their selection. This obligation includes rising juniors enrolling and completing a high level mathematical course such as Precalculus, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC or Post-AP Engineering Calculus.

The mathematics department at LSHS also provides an opportunity for students to participate on a mathematics competition team. Selection for participation on this competition team will be those highly academically ranked members of Mu Alpha Theta. This team has fun with math, and prepares students to participate in local, state, and national competitions.
