Representatives from Douglas County School System’s high school magnet programs will also be available to share information and answer questions.

STEM Student Spotlight: Naomi Wood
Senior STEM Magnet student Naomi Wood is taking her STEM Fair project to the next level through independent research. Naomi is investigating the development of a biodegradable, flame-retardant orthopedic cast, combining science, engineering, and healthcare to explore a more sustainable approach to traditional casting materials. Her work is a great example of what we want our STEM students to accomplish, including identifying a real-world problem, conducting meaningful research, and developing an innovative solution with the potential to help others.

Chopping to Victory: Level 3 Culinary Students Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the Salsa Challenge
Students in Mrs. Hoffman's Level 3 Sports Nutrition class recently put their culinary precision to the test during an exciting hands-on "Salsa Challenge." Held in observance of Hispanic Heritage Month, the lab provided a powerful opportunity for cross-curricular learning, connecting culinary arts, cultural history, and practical sports nutrition.
Designed to demonstrate mastery of knife safety, proper hold, and uniform cutting techniques, the challenge tasked student teams with preparing one of three traditional recipes: fresh Pico de Gallo, vibrant Salsa Verde, or sweet Fruit Salsa.
By taking culinary principles out of the textbook and into the kitchen, students made valuable real-world connections—exploring how fresh, nutrient-dense ingredients fit into an active athletic lifestyle while honoring rich cultural traditions. Every group executed their assigned recipe with impressive teamwork and skill, making the lab a huge, delicious success!

Algebra students in Mr. Sparks’ class took statistics beyond the classroom through an exciting, hands-on STEM activity!
Students designed and launched paper airplanes, measured their flight distances, and used the class data to calculate the mean, median, and mode. This engaging activity allowed students to see how mathematics connects to real-world experiences while strengthening their problem-solving, data analysis, and mathematical reasoning skills.
