The future of education in Douglas County took a tangible step forward this past Friday, October 24th, as a celebratory groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new Lithia Springs High School. Dignitaries, community members and dedicated staff, gathered under clear skies to witness the official turning of the soil that will support the state-of-the-art facility.
The atmosphere was electric as board members, school administrators, and local officials took turns with ceremonial shovels, officially kicking off the construction phase. The event signifies the realization of years of planning promising a modern learning environment equipped for the academic and extracurricular needs of future generations of Lithia Lions.
A particular highlight of the ceremony was the inspiring address delivered by current Lithia Springs High School student, Justin Callwood. Speaking eloquently on behalf of his peers, Justin captured the excitement and hope surrounding the new campus.
The significance of the event was further amplified when Justin had the opportunity to share his perspective with local media. Steve Gehlbach of Channel 2 WSB was on hand to cover the groundbreaking. Construction is slated to begin immediately, with regular updates on the project timeline to be shared with parents, staff, and students via the school website and future newsletters.
The groundbreaking ceremony on October 24th will undoubtedly be remembered as the day the vision for a brighter, more modern educational future for Lithia Springs High School officially began to take root. Stay tuned for more updates as we watch our new school rise!

Thank you to Dr. Napier and our LSHS Robotics Team for creating "SCRAPPY" as our school's entry to the Cultural Art Center's Scarecrow Contest! Scrappy is the "brainchild" of Julie Cardenas, the Robotics Team's Media Lead. If you are in the downtown Douglasville area, check out all of the scarecrows displayed in front of the Cultural Art Center.

Lithia Springs High School proudly salutes Robin Thompson, Ed.S., as the DCSS Digital Trailblazer of the Month for September. An outstanding English Language Arts teacher, Ms. Thompson blends technology seamlessly into her lessons—using tools like Gamma, Canva, and NotebookLM to make learning interactive and engaging.
"Ms. Thompson is an amazing educator," said Principal Felicia Jones. "She brings innovation to the classroom and inspires students to think critically, communicate effectively, and build digital literacy."
Beyond teaching, she leads the ELA department with clarity and empathy, guiding peers in weekly PLCs and district-wide professional development. Her dedication continues this fall as she presents at GAETC 2025 on using NotebookLM in ELA instruction. Thompson is more than a teacher, she's a true trailblazer who uplifts both students and staff through her passion for teaching and technology.
