🎉🏀 LSHS Retires Jersey of Basketball Legend Demeara Hinds
Demeara Hinds is a legend in Lithia Springs basketball. She capped her four-year career as the only player in the school's 50-year history with both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds and then went on to play collegiately for five years at Wake Forest and another year at Clemson.

On Friday, the Lady Lions recognized Hinds by retiring her No. 25 jersey during a special ceremony.
"Demeara set the standard," said LSHS Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Mikey Jones. "She showed every girl who puts on that jersey that with hard work and discipline, you can go from our gym to the biggest stages in college basketball."

Hinds brought a dominant physical presence on both ends of the floor during her time playing center at Lithia. During her senior season, she averaged 13.1 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.6 steals. She posted a career-best 25 points and 22 rebounds in a victory over Banneker in 2020.

That same year, she led a team featuring three freshman starters to a state playoff win. She was named the Region Player of the Year and the Douglas County Sentinel Player of the Year.
Earlier in her career, she played a pivotal role in leading the Lady Lions to the 2018 Region Championship, producing a dominant 10-point, 16-rebound performance to secure only the second region title in program history.
She finished as the school's all-time rebound and shot block leader with 42 career double-doubles in 106 games.
An exceptional student-athlete, Hinds graduated from the Lithia Springs STEM magnet program with a 3.6 GPA.

Lion Report 2/6/26
At Lithia Springs High School, our students are learning how today’s technology really works by building it themselves. In Dr. Lindsey Napier’s classroom, students designed and built DIY chatbots using Arduino Uno kits, blending hardware engineering, coding, and creativity.

From wiring sensors and writing code to crafting custom robot bodies, students explored how hardware and software must work together to power modern AI tools. This hands-on project challenged students to think critically, problem-solve, and bring their unique ideas to life.

We are proud of the innovation, curiosity, and creativity our Lions continue to show every day. #GreatnessGrowsHere #LionPride #STEMExcellence

❄️Weather Update: All Activities Canceled This Weekend

All Douglas County School System activities, including athletic events, are canceled on Saturday, January 31 and Sunday, February 1, 2026.

This decision was made based on weather forecasts and the potential timing for wintry precipitation, which may create unsafe road conditions and hazardous travel.

🔔 We will continue to closely monitor weather conditions throughout the weekend. In the event of any school closure or delay, the Douglas County School System will begin notifying parents and employees immediately using SchoolMessenger.

Details will also be posted immediately on our website at dcssga.org and on our Facebook page. The Douglas County School System will also provide closing or delayed opening information to local news media outlets.

🙏 We appreciate your understanding as we continue prioritizing the safety of our school community.

☀️ DCSS to Reopen Tuesday Following Winter Weather Closure

The Douglas County School System and the Douglas County Emergency Management Agency have been closely monitoring weather and road conditions over the past several days. The winter weather event that caused Monday's closure has moved out of our area, and safer road conditions have returned.

As a result, all schools and offices will resume normal operations on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

All regular schedules, including before- and after-school activities, will operate as normal. Our administrators and the district operations department will continue to monitor conditions at all schools and will alert us immediately if conditions change.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritized the safety of our students and staff. We look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow.

❄️ IMPORTANT: Douglas County Schools to Close Monday, January 26, 2026

Due to severe winter weather approaching our area, the Douglas County School System will close all schools on Monday, January 26, 2026. All extracurricular and athletic events are also canceled on Monday. Students will not report to school. Only essential employees should report to their locations.

The decision to close the school district on Monday comes after days of careful consideration of National Weather Service (NWS) reports and guidance from Governor Brian Kemp’s current statewide State of Emergency.

To stay informed of updates, we encourage families to check their email, follow our district Facebook page, check dcssga.org for the latest information, and verify that their contact details are up to date in Infinite Campus.

We will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the weekend and will communicate any changes through these official notification channels.

Expect another update by 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026, regarding the status of Tuesday, January 27, 2026. At that time, we will announce any additional changes to Tuesday’s schedule, as well as any needed adjustments to after-school activities or athletic events.

Thank you for your continued flexibility and understanding as we prioritize both safety during this severe weather event.
