Message to Families about Possible Severe Weather Conditions
Dear DCSS Family,
The Douglas County School System is working with State and County Emergency Management Officials to monitor the potential for severe winter weather in our area this weekend. At this time, we are canceling all Douglas County School System events for Saturday and Sunday. Legacy Arena will communicate any event changes through its communications channels.
The process of making a decision about school closings or delays involves extensive monitoring of forecasts and road conditions. Decisions are made based on information we receive from several weather forecasting sources, law enforcement, and our Transportation Department's assessments of road conditions across the county.
The Douglas County School System expects to have a decision made by 5 p.m. when possible about any changes to the following school day or adjustments to after-school activities or athletic events. If necessary, we will provide an additional update by 9 p.m. that night. If road conditions change overnight, expect an additional communication by 5 a.m.
When the decision is made to close school or issue delays, the Douglas County School System will begin notifying parents and employees immediately using SchoolMessenger. Details will also be posted immediately on our website at dcssga.org and on our Facebook page. The Douglas County School System will also provide closing or delayed opening information to local news media outlets.
We will continue working to ensure the safety of our students by closely tracking weather conditions. We appreciate your understanding as we continue prioritizing the safety of our school community.

Lithia Springs High School proudly salutes Robin Thompson, Ed.S., as the DCSS Digital Trailblazer of the Month for September. An outstanding English Language Arts teacher, Ms. Thompson blends technology seamlessly into her lessons—using tools like Gamma, Canva, and NotebookLM to make learning interactive and engaging.
"Ms. Thompson is an amazing educator," said Principal Felicia Jones. "She brings innovation to the classroom and inspires students to think critically, communicate effectively, and build digital literacy."
Beyond teaching, she leads the ELA department with clarity and empathy, guiding peers in weekly PLCs and district-wide professional development. Her dedication continues this fall as she presents at GAETC 2025 on using NotebookLM in ELA instruction. Thompson is more than a teacher, she's a true trailblazer who uplifts both students and staff through her passion for teaching and technology.
